A free social app for artists

Behance is a social application owned by Adobe. It provides artistic people with a platform where they can share their artworks and profiles in an online creative community, like Pinterest. The app is free to use and does not have a limit on the number of projects a member can create.

Along with showcasing your work, Behance also works a bit like a freelance platform or portfolio website for users. It has a Jobs link that features opportunities for artists, especially graphic designers. However, while the artists are free to apply for jobs, employers will pay to list them.

How does the app work?

Like other social apps, users can create an account on Behance using an email address. They can also use a social media login or your Adobe ID. Then, you will need to add some demographic information and start building your online portfolio with your favorite pieces. Eventually, you will start to group your work into Projects. Each project has its URL, allowing other artists to share them on the web.

As with other social media sites, viewers can click to show their approval of your artwork. Then, you will get notifications about views and appreciation clicks. Moreover, users can follow each other and get notifications about updated projects. You can then add projects to your Moodboards. As you get more followers, more Project suggestions appear on your feed. Some projects may also be featured in the Curated Galleries.

As mentioned, you can find jobs in Behance. It has a Job link that features opportunities for artists looking for a job. The jobs can be listed as full-time, freelance, and internships. However, if you are an employer, you will pay a small fine to list them. If you are a job seeker, you can browse the listing without logging in. Still, you must log in to access any applications.

Is Behance worth it?

If you are an artist looking to showcase your artwork, Behance is the platform for you. It lets you share your projects with other users and see what they post online. Moreover, it also works like classified ads for graphic designers looking for a job. However, its functionality and navigation could use improvement. Additionally, there are several steps to go through when downloading and saving images.

  • Pros

    • No restriction on the number of artwork shared
    • Jobs link for job seekers
    • Can curate various artworks in a project
    • Allows saving of shared images
  • Cons

    • Navigation needs improvement
    • Frustrating signing up process
    • Downloading images is time-consuming
